Hello!
If you have come here to learn how to do ON Page SEO of a webpage then you are at the right place, I am Sandeep Nagar will teach you how to do it practically. I will provide you with an explanation of everything you need to do on a web page.
Note: I am considering that you are aware of what is SEO, ON page, OFF Page, and Technical SEO. If not then you are advised to read about them first.
First of all, you need to understand there are 3 main types of SEO, ON site SEO, OFF site SEO, and Technical SEO.
On-page SEO is mainly related to the content of a webpage, It mainly included
- URL Structure
- Meta Title
- Meta description
- H1, H2 etc. headers
- Content optimization
- Keyword Density (1-2%)
- Image Optimization
- Internal Linking
- External Linking
- Schema markup
- Loading Speed
You may have heard about Robots.txt, sitemap.xml, and many more in ON Page SEO, all these come to the on-page but you need to understand that these are some technical things that's why they come under Technical SEO, we will learn more about this in our other blogs.
Let's Start our blog and let me teach you how to do on-page SEO of a particular blog and a webpage.
URL Structure:
While creating a URL for your webpage or blog keep in mind these things:
- Keep it short and simple
- Keep it descriptive and put keywords, in the case of webpages keep it short no need to add keyword
- Never use underscore(_) in separating words in a URL (it is because, the search engine thinks there is no space between words if you have used underscore.
- Don't use capital letters in the URL (It is mainly recommended, because although all the URLs are in small letters)
Meta Title:
You have read about this one that it should be kept between 55 -60 chars, but nowadays you will find some blogs with more than 65+ chars in their title length but still you need to try to write it in under 60 characters. While writing a Meta Title which is a very important part of the On Page SEO of a Webpage, you need to consider the following things:
- Put your focus keyword in the Title Tag.
- Keep its length between 55-60 characters
- It is the one which search engine reads, and visitor sees on search engines.
- Make it eye-catching.
- Make it descriptive for the content it contains.
Meta Description:
You need to not use your keywords in the meta description. you have limited space of around 155-160 characters. so you need to add as much as possible text within limits to attract your visitors to your webpage.
The following things need to be considered while writing your meta description:
- Clickbait this is your clickbait to attract your visitors to your webpage, you need to write it to the point.
- Keep it in between 155-160 chars.
- No need to use keywords
- Try to write in small paragraphs and tell about the whole page content in this. just like in this blog. if I am writing about on-page SEO, I will write its meta description as "While doing on-page SEO you need to consider the following things, URL structure, Meta title, Meta description, Image optimization, content optimization, and..". This is a tricky description as it is an article and I want the reader must get the full knowledge about what we have covered in this blog, so I put three dots at the last so the visitor would think that there are some other important points I need to read, so they will visit.
- Always write meta description for your users, consider the title and think what your user needs to read after the title.
H1/H2 Headers:
Most of the times developers or designers don't know its importance, they just put h1 & h2 or sometimes they skip they just provide the size to the text so they look better. but in On page SEO this thing have its own importance.
Search engine consider H1 tag as the title of the content in the specific page. And if it doesn't find H1 then it consider itself any heading as the title of the content. and if there are multiple H1 tags then search engine will be confused about the content of the page. Therefore you need to put 1 H1 tag in every web page and you can put multiple H2, H3.. and so on, tags in a webpage.
Important Note: Always try to put your main keywords in headers, it is because search engines sometimes see your headers for the title of the page when it finds your meta title is not suitable for the content of the page.
Content Optimization:
It feels scary right! don'tworry you need not to do anything with this, always try to keep keyword density 1-2%, Second use as many as possible LSI keywords. Keep your paragraph short. You should keep your lines not too large.
- Always write for the users.
- Use your keywords in evey 100-200 words.
- Don't stuff keywords in your paragraphs again and again.
- Keep your content in bulletins.
- Try to keep it to the point.
Keyword Density (1-2%)
Do not indulge in this much, because keyword density is not considered if your content quality is good. If you are writing content for your users in a best way then don't consider it. But keep in mind while writing a content always consider Semantic keywords instead of using the same keywords.
Image Optimization:
Do not ignore image optimization, because you need not to do much things while doing it. the points you need to consider while doing image optimization are:
- Title of the image
- Alt Text or Tag (Most important)
- Keep the format of the image as webp
Alt Text is the alternative text for the search engines. Now what happens most of the people don't provide alt tag because they think google reads picture but that's not true. You should provide alt text so that every search engine can read what is in the image. Instead of compressing your image you can use the image in webp format it keep your images in high quality and small in size.
Internal Linking & External Linking:
Linking your webpages to other webpages and outer webpages are very important because the linking helps your pages to be indexed. Internal linking is when you link your one webpage to the other webpage and external when you link your webpages to other website' (you do it through off page SEO). You are probably thinking if it is done through Off page SEO then why I am telling you in ON Page SEO article.
Then you need to know that when you link your webpages to other website you put the link in your webpage, blog or images, and all these happen on your webpage, this is why I use this term here.
Schema markup:
Most of the people put this schema markup into technical SEO, yes it comes under technical SEO because you need to add some code to your page. I have used this term in ON Page SEO because every webpage has a different code. So you need to generate different code for different webpages in some cases it will remain same. Just like in articles or blog pages every blog will have the same schema code. It is also called as Rich Results.
Loading Speed:
You should check website and different pages' loading speed differently. Because sometimes your single webpage took too much time to load. You can check loading speed of whole website on the gtmetrix.com. And single page loading speed on pageinsights from google which is now, lighthouse extension.
So here is what you need to check and fix on a webpage while doing on page SEO of a website. To check a webpage on page SEO you can download a chrome extension named SEO Meta in 1 Click.
I have covered all the topics in an on site SEO, so if you find it useful and you have any query you can visit me or contact me at sandeep nagar.
